Hackensack, N.J. – Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco has announced that several drop-in cooling centers throughout the county will remain open this weekend to help residents stay cool during the current heat wave.

It is recommended that residents stay indoors if possible from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the sun is at its strongest and burns and heat strokes are more likely to occur.  All age groups are at risk for heat stroke so please take necessary precautions if you have to be outdoors, including wearing sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and staying properly hydrated.

It is NOT okay to leave a child or pet in a locked vehicle even for a moment as temperatures can rise quite quickly.  It is also imperative to lock all parked vehicles so children cannot accidentally lock themselves inside while playing games like hide and seek.

Also, Lyft is offering free rides to cooling centers.  In New Jersey, anyone looking to access the free rides can use code NJCOOL10.  Codes are valid for two rides up to $15 each from now until Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

There are several designated cooling centers open throughout the county.  Additionally, public libraries, shopping centers, recreation and senior centers can also provide respite from the high temperatures.

Bergen County has established several regional cooling centers:

Dear Valued Partner,
The Good Life Ridgewood Planning Committee is happy to announce the fifth annual Good Life Ridgewood - The Mayor’s Wellness Festival. Last year, we succeeded in achieving our program goal to bring attention to Ridgewood as a destination for healthy living and wellness with an estimated 1000+ visitors. As we prepare for this year’s exciting program, now is the perfect time to secure your participation as an exhibitor.
The event will be held Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Memorial Park at Van Neste Square. In the event of severe weather on that date, we will move the festival to Sunday, September 29, 2019. Please note there are no refunds if you do not participate on the rain date.
Unique in Ridgewood, this festival brings residents, visitors, businesses, and professionals together to exhibit what our community has to offer: social services, health lifestyle businesses, healthy places for kids, mental health services, alternative medicine, local medical/dental specialists, nutritionists, and much, much more. Through the Good Life Ridgewood Festival, local businesses connect with residents to foster long-lasting relationships, while energizing and empowering our community.
Good Life Ridgewood is self-funding—meaning no Village of Ridgewood funds are being spent to bring this exciting event to our town. In fact, we are excited to announce that, going forward, any profits from these events will be put towards capital projects which will benefit residents of the Village of Ridgewood by continuing health and wellness within our community.
Kindly review and complete the attached registration form and forward with check or money order made payable to: Village of Ridgewood. Please note we have made changes to the event this year including lower registration fees and a new email address. We also plan on having a café in the south side of the park offering healthy lunch options.
Looking forward to another amazing event,
The Good Life Ridgewood Team
