Ridgewood IT Dept. - Network Administrator

BACKGROUND: The Village of Ridgewood (“Village”) is creating a new position in the IT Department, Network Administrator 1. The individual’s focus will be in the Water Utility Department to support the IT functions related to the quality and distribution of water to the Village and three surrounding communities. Services to other Village operations will also be required.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Network Administrator 1 (“Technician”) participates in data network maintenance and support. This includes all networking systems in addition to WAN/LAN/wireless infrastructure. The Technician also performs maintenance procedures on networking hardware, cabling, operating systems, and infrastructure. This individual is expected to remain current on developments in telecommunications and networking technology; have strong technical knowledge; as well as experience in routers, access points, firewalls, bridges, IP addressing, switches, hubs, other network devices, protocols, diagnostic tools and all existing network architectures (Ethernet, Fiber Loops/Spanning Tree, etc.). In addition, strong analytical and problem solving skills are critical to troubleshooting networking issues and analysis of system and network performance. An understanding of annual budget preparation and comparison to actual results is vital to operations of the IT department. The Technician is responsible for delivering high quality cost-effective solutions to all levels of users, and is also responsible for supporting the business goals and objectives of the Village of Ridgewood.  

REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's

degree which must include a minimum of eighteen (18) semester hour credits in mathematics, and/or computer science. Applicants who do not possess the Bachelor's degree but possess

the 18 semester hour credits may substitute additional experience as indicated below on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.

EXPERIENCE:  Three (3) years of experience in the development, implementation, and

maintenance of multi-network, multi-user Local Area Networks (LAN), Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN), and/or Wide Area Networks (WAN) environments.



  • Working knowledge of IP addressing (IPv4/IPv6), network protocols, Light UNIX, all aspects of Microsoft Office, VBA, MySQL, SQL, Oracle, PHP/HTML/Java, network design, telecommunications strategy (digital, analog and VoIP), operating systems (Windows), and Firewall/Load Balancers/Routers/Switches
